All stars hotel was introduce to me by my St. John instructors. Joined my instructor in SRJK (C) Chong Wen St. John camp. Well, I am just there to literally look at the kids and of course for me to practice my first aid as well, since I am taking exam soon.
These tent are set up by the student and… nope, they are not sleeping in the basketball court, they will need to move the tent out to the field. They have to inspect the floor, to ensure the ground do not have stones. Ended up some of the tents were so hot that the students rather sleep in the basketball court.
Us? the instructor and the ko-ko (older brother) and che-che (older sister) sleep in all stars hotel. We sleep on the field as well without cover; hence the name all stars hotel. Unfortunately that night there ain’t any stars in the sky. =(
Supper – Milo and Banana cake, but it was my dinner.
Students cooking their own breakfast. It was like a was-zone.
and we – the instructors and the ko-ko che-che doing some food tasting. For most of the kids, it’s their first time making their own food. Some commented that mom’s cooking is still the best. Totally agree on that. Jinn An, being a culinary teacher, food tasting is nothing new to him. Just by looking and smell he could tell if the food is good or bad. Bravo. I was pretty impressed.
I would like to introduce 2 people to you. Top: Uncle Charlie, and bottom: Little Anne. These 2 people are one of the main reason why I am there in the morning.
LIttle Anne is a dummy for CPR. It’s almost like a real human. I had a hard time giving rescue breath. If the head is not tilt to the maximum, air-way not open properly air can’t get into the lung. Gosh… I don’t remember practicing CPR on Little Anne is that difficult.
Its real name is Chocking Charlie. He has firm abs… (don’t play, play heheehe)
This is Jinn An =) He is one good teacher. Patient and detailed. Currently an active volunteer for St. John Ambulance, and YES, he does drive the ambulance too. Ask him about cases, he could tell you stories after stories. Very interesting stories.
Had fun in the camp. Believe it or not. It was my first time sleeping on a field, without any walls just a sleeping bag. Initially it felt a little uneasy, feeling insecure… (I wonder how would those homeless people feel when they needed to sleep by the road side. It must be cold and lonely) but thank God I was exhausted and use to sleeping on a hard ground. So at the end I was able to get some sleep… except for some mozzies bite.
During this camp, it reminds me to keep things simple in life.
Perhaps I can consider camping for my students as well. No AC, just the night breeze.
